Summary0002852: Provide Ubuntu binary packages
DescriptionSince end-users are best served by a simple, uniform software installation method and Ubuntu / Linux Mint is the most popular, binary-based Linux distribution, packaging Gnunet builds for the common architectures will greatly enhance the benefit of the Gnunet project.

Björn sent a (related) message using the contact form at
https://gnunet.org/contact:

Compiling and installing GNUnet is still a 'pain in the a..'. Some
distributions offer binaries, but they are either outdated or important parts
are missing.

How about using the 'openSUSE Build Servive' for building 'official'
binaries? OBS offers building packages from same source for SUSE, openSUSE,
Arch, Debian, RedHat, Fedora, Cent OS, Mandriva and Ubuntu (Kubuntu, Xubuntu,
etc.): http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Build_Service_supported_build_targets

Advantage: Easier installation for the average user and the possibility for
the developers to test GNUnet on a larger scale.

I've been looking into making a package myself. I have a simple build script that builds gnunet (both SVN HEAD and 0.9.5a from scratch w/ dependencies) and would be willing to look into making a package for GNUnet.

This is where work on the Debian package happens: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/gnunet.git
Clone it and send patches to Bertrand Marc.

This is really something Ubuntu needs to do, not us.
