| Summary | 0010739: UX on iOS/Safari: payment confirmations can only be read if cell phone is turned to horizontal mode | ||||
| Description | @CM_7 brought up the scenario that service forces in, e.g., restaurants might use smartphones to show the QR code and then get a payment confirmation when the order was paid by the guest -- this is also important to be able to trust the system, see if payment went through (assumption: the taler-merchant instance is not under the guest's control xD): while this works in principle, visually in vertical mode no information can be grasped in (at least) iOS/Safari from the confirmation website for any order which was paid ("QR code turning into receipt"), which is problematic as this will be a quite common end device scenario in gastro settings, as long as there's no own app for the taler-merchant or any other payment device with Taler support. Ticket from 0010705, important for and blocking 0010630. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Access a taler-merchant instance (v1.2.3 here) with an iPhone using Safari, create an order, and pay it such that, e.g., the QR code turns into a receipt: I couldn't make the text appear in vertical orientation usage mode, which is the default for most people. This was tested on recent iOS (and thus Safari): v18.7.2. However, iPhone itself is an older model with a quite small screen (XR). In any case, the receipt site should be shown in a way that the text can always be seen: no special efforts should be put into the design per se, but the text payload like article bought, price etc. must be accessible information. | ||||
| Additional Information | This is just a first-shot example of UX problems with smart phones; ideally it's possible to globally make sure, text is shown by not allowing it to stick outside the website's area shown on the phone. If this is not easy possible, we need to investigate further pages of the taler-merchant backend we want mechants to have easy accessible information at, in the first place; fixing other areas later. | ||||
