The existing denomination name "Swiss Francs (Fr.)" is defined by the configuration of the denomination key for the TOPS Taler Exchange, not defined in Weblate. There are two options now: 1. It would be OK to have displayed "CHF (Fr.)" for all languages and thus circumvent all internationalisation problems. 2. If the denomination key can be used in a language-sensitive manner, then wallet-core should trigger wallets to render the suitable expression for the currency unit as - "Schweizer Franken" in German, - "francs suisses" in French, - "Swiss francs" in English with a lower "f" in francs for both French and English. In either case there should be a change to the existing string "Swiss Francs (Fr.)" in the denomination key of TOPS - see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_franc, https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franc_suisse, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_4217 |

See exchange.git, 411c66941..088db516f for the required change to "Swiss francs" instead of "Swiss Francs". I do NOT know if the wallets have any logic for translating the currency name, and I'm not sure that that would be a wise thing to even support given that the name is returned by the protocol (and for now without i18n data). If wallets want to translate currency names, we need to side-load the English currency names into weblate and then the wallets can apply i18n for those. |

ACK, see https://git.taler.net/exchange.git/commit/?id=c2495859a6b29da393137b7e71fc9c5676389782 for the change to "Swiss francs" which is OK for Switzerland with its multi-lingo population - to my mind's eyes, but we have to wait for a Swiss fellow to confirm this. If the wallet apps would dispose of a logic to render currency names in different languages, we would have seen these names and their translations long before and, especially for Switzerland, this would have triggered a longish discussion how to name and how to abbreviate those currencies in EN, FR, DE, IT, Rhaetian/Friulian. In the meantime, we can live with CHF (Fr.) and Swiss francs. We have a Friulian mother-tongue speaker at hand to ask for advice. @vecirex, please contribute for the German speaking Swiss! |
